Cooking Hack: Why you should always soak your wooden spoon in warm water

This is handy!

There's nothing like a good cleaning hack and a simple appears to be going viral on social media.

One home cook has displayed the ultimate test of cleanliness -  showing fellow cooks exactly how to know when it's time to dispose of their old wooden spoons.

You'll simply need a bowl of boiling water, place the spoon in it and leave it to soak for a little while.

According to the post on Facebook page Mums Who Cook, Clean and Organise - Australia, if the colour of the water changes and becomes oily - you've got to chuck it out.

“Does anyone soak their wooden spoons in boiling water? Mine always go into the dishwasher every night but that doesn’t stop what gets absorbed. Revolting really,” the cook said.

Several flocked to the post, with many of them eager to try the hack out for themselves.

“OMG, I’m going to go do this to my spoons right now,” one commented.

“I had no idea my spoon was so dirty. Gross,” another said.

TV personality Matt Preston has also in the past spoken about how much he fancies this hack.

“Get your old wooden spoon, put it in a cup of boiling water and then have a sniff and you’ll say, ‘Thank you Matt Preston for making me get a new wooden spoon’,” he once said at an IKEA customer workshop.

A great tip indeed! Would you try it? Let us know on LifeStyle's Facebook page.
