The star will require "prolonged recovery and therapy" after a freak accident.
Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro is recovering at home after he impaled his right hand during a ‘terrible’ incident at his home.
Sharing a photo of himself in hospital with his arm bandaged on Facebook, the 43-year-old wrote, “I was involved in a terrible accident a few days ago…”
The accident happened at his New Jersey home, which is equipped with a bowling alley, while he was spending time with his family.
"There was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter, a common fix in the past, but it turned into a terrible accident," the star’s representative told People.
"After trying to release the bowling pin from the cage mechanism, his right hand became lodged and compressed inside the unit.
"Unable to remove his hand, he can see a 1-1/2" metal rod slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger."
Trapped for five minutes, Buddy was unable to remove his hand. His two quick-thinking sons, Buddy Jr, 16 and Marco, 13, were able to free their father’s hand after using a saw to cut through the metal rod.
He was taken to hospital and has since had two surgeries on his right hand.
His representative added, "It will be an uphill battle as it's Buddy's dominant right hand and he will need prolonged recovery and therapy.”
In true Cake Boss style, Buddy maintained his positive and upbeat attitude following his accident joking with fans, saying “What do you think of my new accessory?” referring to his cast.
Fans and celebrity friends of the famous baker flooded his photo, wishing him a speedy recovery.
“Get better homie. You’re gonna need that hand,” fellow baker Duff Goldman wrote.
“Oh No!!! Get better Buddy,” fellow foodie Roy Fares said.
