The sweet season of delicious decadence is only a hop, skip and a jump away but the Easter Egg doesn't have to be the enemy. Here are 5 metabolism-boosting exercises to earn yourself a treat this season!

For many, the mere thought of chocolate bunnies and hot-cross-buns is enough to make clothes feel tighter. But, according to leading 24/7 fitness group Jetts' NSW Personal Trainer of the Year, Jarrad Sullivan, we don't have to return from the Easter break bursting at the seams.

"When it comes to food and exercise - moderation is key. Obviously there will be a lot of chocolate around at Easter time, and you don't have to deny yourself of a treat every now and then if you're exercising regularly," he said.

Here are Jarrad's top metabolism-boosting tips to help your body burn those extra Easter calories:

  • Incorporate quick motions such as jumping or skipping to give your metabolism and instant kick
  • Don't be afraid to pick up free weights as they help build muscle, and keep your metabolism ticking over for hours after a work out
  • Know your limits, and have targets and goals in place to keep yourself motivated.

  1. Single arm clean press (30 seconds each side x 3)
    Jarrad says: "It's a very technical exercise, but if mastered it will give you great rewards."
  2. Ice Skaters (15 each leg 30 in total x 3)
    Jarrad says: "A winner because it targets so many key areas: Abs, lower back, hips, Gluts (butt) and outer thighs."
  3. Jump lunges (15 each leg 30 in total x 3)
    Jarrad says: "This one can be challenging, so choose the variation best for you. Either assisted, holding on to a bar or chair, using your body weight or free weights - depending on your level of fitness."
  4. Bent over rows (15 Reps x 3)
    Jarrad says: "Make sure to keep a straight back and squeeze between the shoulder blades, keeping your knees soft. To help you get in the right position stand side on to a mirror."
  5. Hopping on one leg (30 seconds each side x 3)
    Jarrad says: "To boost your metabolism and push yourself further with this one you can add in a skipping rope."
