The brave girl born with a heart outside her chest

Virsaviya Borun's beautiful story is sure to touch your heart.

The six-year-old loves to dance and perform like most young girls, but the one thing setting her apart is that she was born with her heart outside of her chest.

Russian born Virsaviya has a rare condition, which occurs in less than one million births. Thoraco-abdominal syndrome or Pantalogy of Cantrell is where the heart is seen beating against the abdominal area, and is only protected by a thin layer of skin.

Virsaviya's intestines are also outside her body.

"When I was pregnant, the doctor said she will not survive, that she is going to die," her mother Dari Borun shared with NBC Miami.

Despite doctor's predictions, Virsaviya is able to dance, perform and live an active life like most young girls.

Virsaviya and her mother Dari have since moved to Florida in the United States in the hope of having surgery.

Several hospitals including the Children's Hospital in Boston have turned down Dari's requests due to it being too high-risk.

"She can't get it because of her high blood pressure and pulmonary arteries," Dari said. "So if it goes down, if she will feel better, they're going to check her in two years."

Virsaviya is unable to attend school due to her condition, but has begun learning English.

Dari has set up a fundraising campaign on to assist with covering medical costs. To date they have raised an impressive $US21,000.

“My heart is right here. It’s outside of my chest and I really love my mum, she’s always touching my heart because she likes it,” Virsaviya said.
