Headphones on, in-flight movie playing, blankie on our lap, and a good book on standby – it’s how most of us prefer to travel on a long haul flight. Right? Wrong.
According to a recent survey conducted by travel company Expedia.com.au, the saying “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus” couldn’t ring more true when it comes to travelling.
While majority of men (67%) look forward to lengthy flights so they can get stuck into the in-flight entertainment, most women (50%) love to bury their heads in a good book instead of staring into the screen in front of them.
OK, so we all like to be entertained one way or another – and let’s face it, there’s really not much else to do! But how else do we like to pass the time?
While the study found a whopping 90% of us aren’t keen on friendly chit-chat with fellow passengers, 15% of men say when they do decide to strike up a conversation, it’s mostly to flirt with the airline staff. What’s more, 4% of travellers actually go on to pursue a relationship with someone they’ve chatted up on a flight!
Male and female jet-setters might have their differences, but there is one thing we’ve come together on. The research found when it comes to all the things we hate when travelling, we equally detest being stuck in a confined space for hours, complain about the uncomfortable seating, and hate other little things like turbulence and airport transit times.
