What’s the key to lasting love? Here’s the top seven secrets of happy couples.
“The secret to our relationship is being able to laugh with each other,” says Charlie, 31, VIC. “Humour can overcome a thousand barriers so Olivia and I try not to take life too seriously if we don’t have to.”
“My husband and I trust each other 100 per cent,” explains Kasey, 35, WA. “We’re also honest and open about our feelings and we tell each other what we need rather than assume they know.”
3. Shared interests
They say couples who play together stay together! “We like each other’s friends which is a huge bonus,” says Nicole, 28, NSW. “I love that we can go out together but I also like that we can hang out apart. It takes time to get to this stage but without a balanced lifestyle you can end up killing each other with love.”
Aretha Franklin said it best! “It’s all about respect,” advises Lisa, 31, NSW. “I really value my husband as a person and he values me. We are each other’s best friends and we encourage each other to be great parents and people.”
“Agatha is my rock,” confides Ben, 29, ACT. “I lost my father to cancer last year and I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without her. She offers me advice on work, trains at the gym with me and pulls me out of my bad moods. She’s like that with everyone. It’s her supportive nature that makes me love her so much.”
“I’m studying to be a doctor which takes up a lot of my time so I’m lucky to have a boyfriend who understand me and my goals,” says Leigh, 23, NSW. “He never demands my time or gets upset when I can’t make things. He understands what I’m doing and in-turn, I understand him!”
7. A comfy couch!
“My fiancé, Brett, snores when he is really drunk,” admits Kate, 26, NSW. “But the good thing is he often falls asleep on the couch so I get a perfect night’s sleep and we don't end up arguing in the morning!” We can all relate to that!
