Since being crowned Miss Universe Australia in 2009, Rachael Finch has gone on to work in various televion roles, winning her a legion of fans with her down to earth personality and enthusiasm for life.
Now Rachael sits down with LifeStyle YOU to talk about how she stays in tip top shape throughout the year and her next big role: becoming a Mum!
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm 12 weeks away from welcoming our baby into the world so preparing for that has been a massive priority. We've just finished renovating our house and in the next few weeks the nursery will be complete! My health is extremely important to me to be able to balance my work and personal life. I've still remained busy shooting for various magazines, working on campaigns with great brands including Kellogg's and shortly after I give birth I'll be working on the Melbourne Cup coverage with Seven and shooting Speedo's new summer campaign! I'm also studying a Health Coach Program at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York via correspondence.
What are your top tips for staying in shape throughout the year?
There's definitely no short cut to staying in shape especially if you want to maintain it! I believe in applying a holistic approach when it comes to staying fit and healthy no matter what time of year. Getting enough sleep, working on your relationships, finding creativity, spirituality and making sure you have joy in your life. I think the most important thing is having balanced and nutritious eating habits. In winter it can be harder to get the goodness we need including the right fibre intake. I love starting the day with a warm bowl of porridge on the couch and sprinkling some All-Bran Fibre Toppers on top is the perfect way to make sure I maintain my insoluble fibre during the colder months.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Did you decide to find out the gender of your baby?
Thank you! Having another soul grow inside of you is the most incredible feeling in the world. We have decided to leave the gender a surprise but I do know that I'm growing one active little bub - lots of kicking going on all day long.
How have you changed your diet since becoming pregnant?
I've definitely found myself feeling hungrier throughout pregnancy that's for sure! I'm eating normally but including an extra meal during the day. I include a balance of wholewheat ingredients such as brown rice, dark breads and All-Bran cereals, fresh fruit and vegetables, proteins such as beans, nuts, fish and lean meat and drink plenty of water! Of course I let myself have the occasional treat, I have a real soft spot for chocolate ;-). I'm still dancing, practicing yoga and pilates and walking.
