Why did you choose to be a part of Wife Swap Australia?
I thought it would be a great experience and interesting to see how another family chooses to live. I have watched the show for years and have always loved it. I was also hoping that my family might appreciate me and what I do for them more.
How did you find the experience?
I had a great time. Meeting the family was very scary but they made me feel very welcome. Marina did a lot of sport and house cleaning which I found a little hard and there was no fun in the family life - it was all work, cleaning and more cleaning, not something that I would enjoy in my life.
What was the highlight of being involved on Wife Swap?
Finding out how another family lives their lives. From the beginning to the end everyone was very friendly and made me feel comfortable in the process. I think my family appreciates me more after the experience.
What was the hardest obstacle or challenge you faced?
The hardest challenge was living Marina’s life as well as not having much to do with her daughter. Her daughter spent so much time in her room studying and when she was with her, she would put her down if she wasn’t getting 100% or A’s - I found this the hardest as I don’t push my kids and I always praise them for what they are doing.
What one thing did you take away from your experience that you'll apply to your own family life?
I did realise that we were spending too much money on alcohol and smokes, so we have cut down on the spending. I also realised that I need to do a little more exercise. I do love my life and this experience proved to me that having heaps of money isn’t everything if you don’t have the support of your family.
What do you think you taught the other family?
I think I taught the Sivkova family that they need to have some family time and that they should encourage Gabby in all she does, not put her down. As a teenager, Gabby should have her friends around and be allowed to go shopping with them. Marina should give up some of her sports activities in the evening to spend some quality time with her family.
