Are you sitting at your desk, head pounding, regretting the one-too-many drinks you had last night? An ancient Chinese herb may just be the remedy to what seems to be your inevitable morning hangover.
Sen, a health company that bases their products on “Chinese wisdom in beauty”, has released After Alcohol tea; an infusion of herbs that is said to calm the liver and stomach, reduce nausea, stop vomiting and to relieve headache.
The tea is caffeine-free and the main herbs include 19% Pueraira and 25% Lophaterum. The Pueraira flower has been used by the Chinese since about 200 B.C. to relieve the headache and tired-muscles associated with a hangover, and the flower is considered amongst the top 50 most fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese medicine.
The Lophaterum helps take care of the other half of symptoms - stomach irritability and vomiting. At the same time, the product helps to “wake up the mind”, making it very desirable indeed for a morning back in the office after a night out.
For one cup, boiling water should be poured over 3-5g of the herbs and left to infuse for no longer than three minutes. The same herbs can then be reused for a second cup if needed.
Whilst Sen does not endorse the teas as a medicinal product as such, they highlight the role of their teas as an effective part of one’s lifestyle, restoring the body to normal health after a heavy bout of drinking.
Now there’s no excuse to take a “sickie” on Monday morning! For more information on Sen’s After Alcohol tea, visit www.senhealth.com.
