I Couldn’t Stay Married Because I Was Gay

In The Secret Sex Lives of Australian Men Malcolm, 57, says he loved his wife of 28 years but he knew he was gay.

 Malcolm wasn’t trying to escape being gay by getting married. He had discussed his sexuality with a psychologist, who had advised him that he was curious, not gay. So Malcolm and Kerin married and had two children (who are now adults).

 Six years ago Malcolm started talking online with gay men and came out to his wife. Eventually they decided to separate.

 “We had our ups and downs as many couples do. And when children come along they change the dynamics of your sex life. And while we had issues at times we actually didn’t think about the possibility that it was related to my sexuality,” said Malcolm.

Statistic: 20% of gay men have been married or in de facto relationships with women.
