How to Keep Your Kids Happy and Healthy

Childhood obesity can be a taboo subject but the reality is that it’s a growing concern among our younger generations. Alarming figures now show the number of overweight children in Australia has increased significantly in recent years, with a quarter now considered overweight or obese.

Unhealthy food choices, lack of physical activity and family eating habits can all be contributing factors to childhood obesity and the long list of health problems that can come with it.

Many parents feel they are fighting an uphill battle when it comes to getting their kids to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, but fear not. Tommy Nicholas and the team at Raw Blend are turning frowns upside down (parents included) with delicious and healthy recipes that even the fussiest of children will love!

Stealth Health Ice Cream

Makes: 1L
Serves: 2-4

Ingredients
• 380g coconut or vanilla yoghurt
• 680g strawberries (frozen)
• 1/2 lime
• Handful cabbage
• Handful mint

Method
1. Put all the ingredients into the Vitamix 2L container (or similar blender) in the order listed and secure the lid.
2. Select Variable 1. Turn the machine on and quickly increase the speed to 10, then override to High.
3. Use the tamper to effectively press the ingredients into the blades whilst processing.
4. Blend for 40-50 seconds or until desired consistency is reached.
5. Stop the machine and serve.

 

Beet Berry Burst

Makes: 2L
Serves: 4

Ingredients
• 1 cup seedless grapes
• Large slice pineapple (including core)
• 1 cup strawberries
• 1/2 raw beetroot
• 1 cup mixed berries
• Beetroot leaves
• 1/2 lemon
• 1-2 cup ice

Method
1. Put all the ingredients into the Vitamix 2L container (or similar blender) in the order listed and secure the lid.
2. Select Variable 1. Turn the machine on and quickly increase the speed to 10, then override to High.
3. Use tamper to effectively press the ingredients into the blades if required whilst processing.
4. Blend for 60-90 seconds or until desired consistency is reached.
5. Stop the machine and serve.

 

Cacao Bliss Balls Recipe

Makes: approx. 15

Ingredients
• 1 cup medjool dates (pitted)
• 1/2 cup slivered almonds
• 1/2 cup cashews
• 1/3 cup cacao power
• 1/3 cup coconut oil (melted)
• 1/3 cup shredded coconut
• Pinch Himalayan sea salt
• Tbsp chia gel (mix 2 tsp chia seeds with 2 Tbsp water to form a gel)

Method
1. Put all the ingredients into the Vitamix 2L container (or similar blender) in the order listed and secure the lid.
2. Turn your variable speed dial to 10 and pulse the machine on and off 5 times for 3 seconds each time.
3. Select Variable 1. Turn the machine on and quickly increase the speed to 10, then override to High.
4. Use tamper really well to press the ingredients into the blades.
5. Blend until you have a nice dough consistency.
6. Roll the balls in any extra shredded coconut to coat and place on a plate lined with grease proof paper.
7. Set the truffles in the freezer for about an hour and take out just before serving.
