How To Bring the Spa Experience Into Your Home

Our Wellbeing Expert, Sam Sargent, shares her five favourite DIY spa rituals from spas around the world.

RITUAL 1 - Essential Oils

I love the opening ritual of spa treatments whereby you take three deep breaths of an essential oil blend so I do this at home each morning when I apply a body oil (scented with essential oils) to my body, bringing my hands up to my face and taking three deep in-breaths before gently massaging the oil in to my limbs. Naturally, I am partial to my Be genki range of organic body oils scented with organic essential oils.

RITUAL 2 - Hot and Cold

I also love the hot and cold plunge pools in spas. It’s such an invigorating way to boost the immune system, and improve skin tone and circulation. It’s easy to recreate this at home by alternating the shower with hot and cold intervals. Enjoy a minute of warm water, followed by 15 seconds of cold water, and then repeat.

RITUAL 3 - Body Scrub

Getting a body scrub at spas is the ultimate indulgence and rare treat, so I make it a twice a week habit to mix a little bowl of celtic sea salt with organic olive oil and apply to my legs and butt while in the shower. The salt effectively removes any dead skin cells whilst the oil helps to leave my skin feeling oh so soft. This combination is easy to wash down the drain once in the shower and doesn’t leave my bathroom walls and floor needing a clean (unlike the common coffee scrubs).

RITUAL 4 - Facial

Once a week I love creating an at-home spa experience in my bathroom. Usually it’s an at-home facial whereby I cleanse, exfoliate, and then apply a mask and lay back in a bath scented with essential oils for 20 minutes whilst the mask works its magic. I then follow with a facial mist, serum and moisturiser (I personally love Live Native for my at-home spa indulgence facial - the Cacao and 23k gold face mask is divine! An absolute treat! I also love AEOS energized organics for an at-home spa facial - the face mask is like a giant tea bag filled with herbs and flower petals that you lay on your face for 15 minutes – it’s extremely beneficial for calming the skin).

RITUAL 5 - Nails

Each fortnight I love to paint my toes, so I re-create a pedicure treatment at-home and apply a lick of colour to my toenails (I personally love Intensae 5-free nail lacquer). This provides the perfect excuse to take some much needed 'me time' to lay on the couch and read a magazine while the nail lacquer dries.
