Can this Aussie health drink really help cure type 2 diabetes?

A Sydney man has created a probiotic drink in the hope of reversing his type 2 diabetes symptoms... but does it actually work?

After receiving news of his type 2 diabetes diagnosis, John Leith took an incredibly pro-active approach to curing his disease.

He undertook a lot of research into the symptoms, and created the Hemp Oz Kombucha probiotic drink, an Australian-first product to help people with type 2 diabetes - and it's having some amazing results.

How does it work?

Initial clinical trials of the kombucha recruited participants with the disease, or those displaying pre-diabetic blood glucose levels all across the country. In an independent scientific study, researchers found:

  • 75 per cent of participants reported improvement in their fasting blood sugar levels
  • 1.5mmol/L fasting blood sugar levels improvement
  • Around one in three (31 per cent) participants reported drastic results and completely resolved their diabetes symptoms

What else can you do?

Naturopath at Flannerys Organic & Wholefood Market, Caroline Robertson says it's all down to making healthier choices with your diet, and choosing low GI options where you can.

“Foods with a high GI, such as white bread, are broken down quickly during digestion and release glucose into the blood faster than low GI foods. This may lead to the ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ of sugar crashes, appetite fluctuations and moodiness,” she says. “Aiming for low GI foods means your body gets slow release energy that can help you stay full for longer with more stable blood glucose levels."

Caroline continues, “Prevention is key. Taking care of your health through choosing wholesome foods and regular activity provides long-term benefits and reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”
