As we celebrate International Friendship Day on July 30, the Gogglebox favourites reveal what forms the foundation of their firm mateship.
Since debuting on our screens in 2015, Adam Densten and Symon Lovett have kept viewers enthralled with their shared sense of humour, quick wits and unshakable friendship. So how did the pair meet? And what keeps their bond as tight today as it was when they first hit the Gogglebox couch? The pair shares their fun-filled story.
What are your memories of the very first time you met? Did you form a friendship instantly?
Adam: " It couldn't be more cliched if we tried. We met at a university pub crawl for physiotherapy and Symon was late. Standard. He came into the already formed circle of boys who were (maturely) talking about times they hadn’t made it to the toilet in time. Symon coming late meant he had to tell the next story and so I had found out his tale before I even knew his name. Needless to say, friends forever resulted."
Symon, what qualities does Adam have that makes him such a good friend? And Adam, same question for you with Symon.
Symon: "It's the balance that makes the friendship work. Adam is punctual, I am not."
Adam: "Symon is very fashion forward, I am yet to learn the meaning of fashion."
Symon: Adam is tall, I am short. Both of us though, importantly, laugh at each other’s jokes, even when they're not funny, and both can tolerate the other's inane chatter during TV shows."
Are there specific instances or scenarios you lean on each other's friendship?
Adam: "When Symon is coming over to my place and I'm out of Pizza Shapes or snacks, he is always willing to stop by a corner store to pick some up."
Symon: "Adam has been known to deliver either morning Maccas and/or a Powerade to me should I have had a few too many vodka raspberries the night before."
What sort of things do the two of you enjoy doing together most?
Adam: "I don’t know if doing nothing together counts as doing something? Because we often get together and do nothing. We do nothing on the couch, nothing at the pub, nothing out for dinner..."
Symon: "We love doing nothing together."
What makes the friendship so special to you?
Symon: "The sheer lack of judgement coming from either party, regardless of what happens.
Adam: "It's the unwavering and unconditional support, similar to that of a Labrador, that we provide each other."
