Two beauty experts slash scientists weigh in on what they'll never eat, as well as what to nibble in moderation.

It's true—we are what we eat, and a big part of the secret to beautiful, youthful skin is in our diet. 

At Lifestyle, we're big supporters of all things in moderation—but then we know there are some sugar-heavy, chemical-laden foods best crossed off the shopping list forever for our general wellbeing, but also to avoid redness, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, and outbreaks. 

While we're not likely to be giving up a serve of hot chips or chocolate for good, we decided to investigate precisely which foods we should avoid or curb to acquire that elusive day-to-day glow from within. 

Here, we've quizzed food scientist and founder of natural food-based lipstick line Lükbeautifood, Cindy Lüken, on what she doesn't have in the pantry and why.

We also asked Cambridge University graduate and ageing expert Dr Sara Palmer Hussey, PhD on the ingredients she avoids at all costs. Dr Sara is the founder of Lumity—a line of morning and night vitamin-rich skin supplements and facial oil.
