Drinking whiskey may help ease your cold

While you can't magic away a cold you can certainly help ease your discomfort with a little whiskey!

In particular, the classic hot toddy consisting of whiskey, honey, lemon juice and hot water can help with your sniffles.

“The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection,” Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, told ABC News.

In fact, Dr Schaffner adds that the warm moisture from any hot liquid can aid general cold symptoms, think warm chicken soup etc.

Now, we aren't suggesting you go and down as many hot toddy's as you can handle, because you need to keep well hydrated at the same time. But, if the alcohol helps our mucus membrances deal with the infection, we're okay with that!
