Cat Yoga: The Purrfect Morning Start

Just when I thought I couldn't find any more variations of yoga - I stumbled upon 'cat yoga'...

If you thought the best way to start your day was with a strong flat white -  I'm here to make a rebuttal.

You clearly haven't tried cat yoga.

While the concept seems a bit wild, I can testify that getting a cuddle from a cute kitten is sure to induce some kind of endorphin high, unrivaled by caffeine or a sleep in.

For this reason, pairing kittens and yoga almost seems inevitable. Mindfulness + kitten-cuddles = enlightenment. Right?

Sure, trying to stay 'present' in a room full of cat babies isn't exactly easy. In fact, I probably spent less time focusing on my third eye and more time trying to mentally summon a kitten to come play with me. (FYI, doesn't work.) But, in all honesty, a room full of felines is probably the closest I'll get to Nirvana - so it works out.

Kittens can make a home on my back any day of the week. Thanks @sydneycatcafe for the awesome cat yoga!

The 'Cats on Mats' class I attended was held by Sydney Cat Cafe, in partnership with Modo Yoga in the Sydney suburb of Rosebery.

All proceeds from the event were donated to Maggies Rescue animal shelter.

So, all in the name of charity, we hung out with kittens while doing animal-themed yoga poses.

The class was topped off with some delicious snacks and free time for more cat cuddles, or Snuggles - as this one was called...

The little critters are all up for adoption, so if you're in the market - a bit of one-on-one at a yoga studio certainly beats heading to your local pet store or breeder.

"It has been such a rewarding experience to partner with organisations such as Maggies Rescue to raise funds and awareness for their incredible charitable works, bettering the lives of adorable and deserving rescue kitties," Sydney Cat Cafe owner, Veronica Morland, explained.

"At our first pop up kitten café, I met and fell in kitty-love with my adorable tortie manx cat, Buttons, and adopted her soon after from Maggie’s Rescue!

"It’s been such a special journey getting to know her and I highly recommend rescue adoption to anyone thinking of becoming a pet owner."

With all the classes selling out within five hours, there is sure to be a high demand for more.

In the meantime, you can head to Sydney Cat Cafe for a chance to hang out with some cool cats (both human and feline).
