Alyssa Milano has always been an advocate of public breastfeeding, and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.
The 42-year-old actress and mother to Milo, 4, and Elizabella, 1, is sick of being judged for her decision to breastfeed her children in public.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Alyssa delved into the double standards between Miley appearing "almost naked" at this year's VMAs to her posting a breastfeeding photo on her personal Instagram account.
“Everyone’s fine with [Miley’s] nipples being out, but if I post a picture of me breastfeeding it’s craziness,” Alyssa said.
“I think people are more comfortable sexualising breasts, than relating them to what they were made for, which is feeding another human. It’s crazy. But you know what? I don’t care. I’m going to keep breastfeeding, maybe even until she’s six.”
This isn't the first time Alyssa has been vocal about her thoughts on public breastfeeding. The former Charmed actress, married to David Bugliari, took to Twitter in April to voice frustration of her pre-pumped breast milk being confiscated at Heathrow Airport.
“Just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces [295mL]. Gone. Not okay,” she tweeted.
“They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????”
Following the incident, Alyssa told People Magazine, “I think that it just struck a chord and people ran with it."
“I think that breastfeeding mums feel like what they do needs to be hidden, or not feel like they’re getting the appreciation that comes along with being a breastfeeding mom, and it meant something that someone was being vocal.
“When I post pictures of me breastfeeding Bella, it’s not that I’m trying to be very outspoken about breastfeeding, it’s that it’s a very special moment in my life.
“What [other people] take from that is a whole other thing. Support from not only breastfeeding mums, but mums everywhere, has been really powerful and really overwhelming,” she said.
