7 Ideas for Making Money from Home

Thanks to the digital age, there is now an influx of opportunities for people to make money without ever leaving the house.

But before you get too comfortable, heed this essential advice to ensure your newfound freedom proves fruitful.

Offer Your Skills Online

"The rise of online marketplaces like Airtasker makes it fun and easy to browse through available work by selecting location and keywords that match your skills," explains Marc Elison, Chief Marketing Officer from AxiTrader. "Whether you’re a pro at cleaning, transcribing or website design, there’s someone out there looking to outsource that work to you," he says. "Set up alerts so that you are notified of relevant job listings. If you don’t want to leave your house, opt-in only for online related tasks and services."

Try Trading

Forex trading sounds complex but if you’re good with money and you tend to follow international markets, why not put those skills and interest to good use? “Online trading platforms, provided by Forex Brokers make trading very simple, giving access to trading tools, analytical resources, education and even 24-hour support,” explains Marc. "With different market opening hours around the world, you have the flexibility of trading currency 24 hours a day,  five days a week."

Set Up Shop

Selling items online is not new but it is a trusty way to make some extra money, says Marc. "Whether it’s a pile of old furniture you have or a closet full of barely worn clothes, selling goods online has never been easier thanks to platforms like eBay and Gumtree." The key to success - and extra profit - is to take a series of good photos of whatever you are selling to include in your online listing, he highlights. "The more detail you can provide, the more likely your item will sell."

Share Your Thoughts

Want to be paid for your honest opinion? "There are many marketing and research companies out there who offer money or other forms of compensation (e.g. vouchers and coupons) to get your thoughts on a product, brand or campaign," Marc says. "These online surveys don’t require too much work from you – mostly just your insight and opinion - which you provide in your own spare time." The top tip here, however is to filter your profile so that you are only sent surveys relevant to you."

Market on Multiple Levels

Do you have an extensive network of family and friends? Then multi-level marketing might be right for you. The business model is quite unique, explains Marc. "Essentially you sell goods and services to earn a commission or you recruit other members who go on to sell," he says, admitting although it may sound like a lot of work, "if you enjoy interacting with others and you’re passionate about what you’re selling, you can achieve incredible success and profit from engaging in multi-level marketing."

Design From Home

If you’re a graphic designer or  simply great with Photoshop, why not look into freelance design jobs you can take on and work from at home? "With the digital age in full swing, more companies, individuals and outlets are looking for website design and graphic design experts," notes Marc. "You can make a decent income out of this depending on how many jobs you accept."

Try Tutoring

If high-school math is your forte or you’re a gun at essay writing, tutoring is a good option to consider. "Opt for a subject you love so that it doesn’t become a chore," Marc advises. "Make sure you are truly familiar with the topic so that you can provide value for students and help them with their curriculum and if you have the capacity to take on multiple students, tutoring can help you achieve a steady and healthy income."
