4 Tips to Spring Clean Your Body

Are your favourite jeans feeling a little tighter around the belly? Well you might want to get started on planning your detox for spring.

It's that time of year for fresh starts and new beginnings, and we have four tips to get you well on your way to being ready for the scorching-hot bikini season.

Cut the crap

Your spring detox calls for you to cut the crap in two ways: one, stop lying to yourself that you'll get started on the Monday that never comes, and two, get rid of the junk food filling your fridge that could ruin your healthy meal plans.

The journey to a healthier, fitter you can't happen if you don't have the right attitude. So let go of your doubts and your stash of chips and chocolate!

Eat clean and green

Spring cleaning your body doesn't necessarily mean you have to deny yourself proper meals -  lemon and cayenne pepper drinks just won't cut it when it comes to supplying your body with essential nutrients.

Simply aim to add more naturally detoxifying foods in your diet, as these will cleanse your body of toxins.

Stock up on lemons, which stimulate the liver and contain antibacterial properties that aid in purifying the blood and balancing the PH levels of your colon.

Seaweeds such as wakame, kombu and nori are also a fantastic source of powerful antioxidants which alkalise blood. These sea vegetables also contain algin which absorbs toxins from the digestive tract.

Other top foods to add to your shopping list are garlic, green tea, beetroot, coriander, kale, pomegranate, wheatgrass and beetroot.

Water = best friend

Get your fill of water to cleanse out all the bad toxins, aiming to drink at least 2L each day. A good trick to ensure you make water your best friend is to keep a filtered water bottle at your desk, kitchen sink and gym locker.

Start the day with a smoothie

Don't have time to whip up a healthy, sit-down breakfast? Prepare a quick smoothie on the go, combining all your essential foods to start the day.

Incorporate greens in your smoothie by adding kale, mango, mint, parsley, celery and orange to your blender and mixing until smooth.

Other fantastic smoothie combinations are raspberry, lemon, spinach and banana, mixed frozen berries and pomegranate, and watermelon, banana and dandelion (greens).
