A woman's Facebook tip for getting rid of ants has quickly gone viral after she said she was fed up with hundreds of ants that have invaded her kitchen.
Followers to the Facebook cleaning page agreed they were also fighting a losing battle against the little critters who had suddenly appeared and were incredibly difficult to get rid of!
“Ants have gone super crazy in the last 24 hours and I'm beyond over them.. I'm trying the borax and honey...they are definitely loving it,” said Charlie on a cleaning Facebook page.
Charlie revealed that her recipe was very simple.
She simply took a milk bottle lid, added enough honey to cover the bottom and then mixed in borax to make a syrup.
The ants are attracted by the syrup but then ingest the borax which is poisonous.
Another member of the group admitted she had used this technique with great success but had slightly tweaked the recipe.
“You can also do equal parts borax and white sugar. That way (especially outside) they walk all over it, ingest it, and then take it back inside their nest. It won't be as quick as ant sand, but it will be way more enduring. You'll notice a huge difference within about 3 days,” said member Nadine.
"Is it just me or are there a million more ants right now than ever before?" said another. "I will definitely be doing this."
Some members of the group were quick to point out that borax can be very harmful to children or pets and so the milk bottle lids with the syrup and borax should only be positioned where children and dogs or cats can't reach it.
"Try a cupboard," she suggested. "I would hate your kids to think it was a yummy new food."
