Angus Stewart has spent the last 20 years evolving plants to be more suitable for modern day gardens. In hybridising Australian native flora he’s created new breeds that stand up to the pace and demands of modern day life.
“Plants in the wild evolve to certain criteria there to help them to survive there – survival of the fittest, but in gardens we have a different sort of environment. You need to really evolve them in a slightly different direction and that’s where the hybridisation comes in. So plants that will ideally grow without any additional watering is probably the number 1 criteria at the moment.” Angus Stewart.
In recognising the challenges that face urban gardeners today, Angus is passionate about bringing more natives into our homes. The 2 varieties that Angus mainly concentrates on are Brachyscome daisies and kangaroo paw and Angus is working to make these two able to survive the toughest conditions on the tiniest amount of love and thrive in any urban space.
