Lawn Care and Repair Tips

A good looking lawn is a great asset, but it isn't maintenance free. It does take some effort to look after it.

Here are Charlie's top three tips to lasting lawn.

  • To keep the life in your lawn, you need to get rid of all the dead matter once a year. If you have a small lawn you can do this with a stiff rake. For larger lawns, a great machine called a de-thatcher, will do the job and basically does all of the hard work for you.
  • You will need to aerate the turf. This is basically making a series of holes in the soil that allows oxygen to reach the roots of the plants and stimulate growth. You could use a fork for this job, or a spiked roller.
  • Finally, apply a nitrogen rich fertilizer – it’s Nitrogen that gives plants their greenery. But choose an all round product. Too much nitrogen could lead to a growth spurt and what you’re looking for is steady development. It’s also a good idea to water in the fertilizer to increase its efficiency and stop it burning the grass.

While this may seem like a lot of work, it's all worth it in the end, and can save you time and money in the future.
