How To Use Indoor Plants in your Home

When thinking about designing a room, don’t forget about greenery. Yas Ghoniem shares her top tips.

Plants are alive, they’re living, breathing organisms, and we sometimes forget that. But they do so much to an interior, they help soften, relax and make spaces feel less formal. Spaces can be quite static so adding greenery to any room just injects so much energy.

1. Hanging plants are a really great way of maximizing small spaces. So instead of putting plants on the floor or on a bench top, think about hanging them above. In a bathroom application, a fern is a really great selection because they love moist and humid environments, so that means a lot less maintenance.

2. When you’re thinking about colour don’t limit your selections to just flowers. Consider berries, fruits, and coloured leaves. There is so much more to play with than tulips and roses. Think outside the box, you’ve got so much to work with.

3. When finding the perfect selection of plants for a corner or a beautiful corner piece, it is really important to think about a couple of things. Scale and size are probably where you want to start, pick your biggest piece first, then scale it down to your medium and small.

4. Shape of the leaves is really important - mix and match they don’t have to be all the same thing. There are so many to pick from, have fun with it.

When thinking about designing a room, don’t forget about greenery. It’s just as important as every other element in there. Consider it carefully, as it will change the look and feel but always for the better.
