If you're considering giving your garden a makeover, listen to Charlie's advice first.
Like with any new space, Charlie explains planning is key to achieving the garden of your dreams.
"Think about what your garden is going to be used for, and who is going to be using it," Charlie explains.
What's the best way to do that? Zoning!
Plot your space into separate or distinct "zones" to manage different needs.
The first thin you need to do is draw a plan to scale, to ensure everything you want will fit within your space.
Consider the different areas and which is your biggest priority.
- For this space you will need some "hard landscaping" - essentially, a surface. Consider a decking area or a paved patio.
- If you have young children, you will want to consider a "play area". Charlie's main tip: Make sure it's not too close to the "adult zone".
If you have a small backyard, invest in "vertical gardens" to make up for the lack of room. If you have the luxury of a lot of space, a pergola will offer some shade or an interesting feature.
