How outdoor living can add value to your home

» Brought to you by

The garden doesn't just have to be for the kids or the dog!

A great way to add extra value to your home is to make more useable living space out in the garden.

No matter how big your block size, there are plenty of simple yet effective ways to draw people outside.

It doesn't just have to be a lawn area for the kids to play or for the dog to run around. I’m talking about living space, lounging space.

In Ravenshoe, the land area is huge and there's even a creek running through the property, so I chose to use that natural asset to draw people out to the deck.

Rather than building a deck attached to the house, I decided to do it down by the creek to draw potential buyers out and show them one of the best selling points of this huge house.

Outdoor living areas give buyers a chance to picture themselves using it the way they’d like. This could be a place to enjoy their morning coffee, read a book or entertain friends.

Adding a pergola to an entertaining area is a great way to increase the impact in the landscape. By covering it you can make the space more useable come rain, hail or shine.

An actual structure can add even more value. Even if you have a small land area, you can still add value by adding an awning to the patio. Now it’s a useable dining space even in wet weather.

Adding a living space to your garden not only adds value, but it goes hand in hand with the outdoor Australian, laid-back lifestyle.
