Boasting a clean, contemporary design, this landscape is created for year-round enjoyment
Designed and built by Landscape Constructions, the front and rear gardens of this Perth property perfectly complement the contemporary architecture of the home and provide inviting outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed both day and night.
“The brief from the homeowners was to make the new landscape functional,” explains the designer of the garden and founder of Landscape Constructions, Chris Moore. “They wanted it to feature definite, neat lines; have an uncluttered, uncomplicated look; and, of course, it had to fit in with the rest of the estate.”
This is a landscape with myriad stand-out features, starting with the new outdoor kitchen that sits to one side of the covered deck. Of clean contemporary style, this multifunctional cooking area includes a barbecue/teppanyaki grill and pizza oven. Storage space has been integrated into the outdoor kitchen and behind the pizza oven, herbs happily grow, providing fresh ingredients.
Next to the outdoor kitchen is a space-saving built-in timber bench; surrounding both the bench and the outdoor kitchen are planter boxes. On the other side of the deck there are more planter boxes as well as a feature tree in a stand-alone planter, which has wide timber capping so it can double as seating. All planter boxes were built of brick and then rendered and painted to tie in with the exterior colour of the two-storey house.
“To contrast with the existing timber-floored, covered alfresco area, the paving used on either side of the structure has a rustic look. And by choosing light-coloured paving, we were able to make the rear garden look bigger than it actually is,” adds Chris.
He is especially proud of the water feature. Taking the form of a small running creek, this soothing feature sits at the far end of the alfresco area. On the wall above, a laser-cut, rust-finish decorative wall panel provides a focal point.
At night, the wall art is uplit, as are the feature plantings in both the front and rear gardens. In fact, the entire landscape lighting scheme, which uses LED, has been well planned and expertly executed.
A lot of attention was given to the planting scheme, which includes Magnolia ‘Little Gems’, Manchurian pears, silver birches and frangipanis. To keep the plants looking lush and vibrant, Landscape Constructions installed a water-wise drip irrigation system to the garden beds. To conserve water and keep the landscape as low maintenance as possible, the company installed synthetic turf down the side of the house and in the front garden.
Based in Perth, Landscape Constructions prides itself on the quality of its design and construction as well as its high level of customer service. As a sign of the company’s commitment to a high level of professionalism, it is a member of both the Landscape Industries Association of Western Australia and the Housing Industry Association
