Beginner's Guide to Companion Planting

Companion planting is a technique in gardening and agriculture where certain plants are grown together with the aim of not only deterring pests - but encouraging healthy growth as well.

Companion plants can also play a role by attract beneficial insects – especially bees that aid in pollination – and increase flavor & help balance nutrients in the soil.

Some examples of companion planting matches are:

  • Basil with tomatoes (plus marigold to attract bees)
  • Nasturtiums with brassicas (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli etc)
  • Onions & spring onions with carrots
  • Chives with apples & cucumbers
  • Kohl Rabi with onion
  • Leek with strawberries
  • Parsley with sweet corn

Paul west shows us how in the video above!
