Nutrition/eating plan for person without a colon

I had my colon removed about 9 years ago and have a j-pouch. I also now have a heart condition, high cholestrol and live with pain on a daily basis. I was diagnosed as bi-polar so this resulted in more medication. My body seems to be retaining quite a lot of fluid and suffer from fatigue. I am 50 years old, 1.76m tall and weigh 80 kilograms. HELP!!! I would like to reduce my medicine intake, become leaner and look younger by following a healthier diet regime suitable for me. Can you help me????

Hi Bruce, First of all you need a good GP as well as a nutritionist to work with you over a 6 months to support a healthy eating change. Integrating a gentle exercise such as swimming, yoga or tai chi would be incredibly beneficial in combination with healthy eating, There are many menu plan samples on this website that I used on the show so they are a great place to start. Take one step at a time, eliminate caffeine, then alcohol, then sugar and you will slowly but surely start to feel stronger. As for your medications, as your health improves you could work with your GP to slowly reduce the ones that are not absolutely essential.
