Update your bathroom on trend and on a budget

Bathroom renovations don’t have to be complicated or costly. Here are a few tips from Shaynna to help you stay on a budget and on trend.

The bathroom in the New Norfolk episode was such a mix-up of colours and finishes.

I wanted to create a consistent look - which is something you can easily do yourself!

The colours on the vanity were so dark and I wanted to give it a lift without replacing it - so I freshened up the tiles with some tile paint.

Make sure you clean and prime the tiles first. Then on goes the paint, and before long, the vanity will look much brighter.

Now we’ve got a neutral setting to highlight new fittings or pieces that might be on trend.

The very nature of a trend means the items are on the market for a limited time, until the next big thing comes along. So my advice is to use trends where they’re easy to replace.

Updating tapware is pretty simple. And it’s a great way to modernise, or add character, to your bathroom.

For example, I replaced mismatched shower handles with more classic gold ones. And they tie in beautifully with the existing tapware.

Replacing knobs and handles is also a simple and cost-effective way to enhance a trend or theme.

With the money I saved making my DIY changes, I now have some money left in the budget to dress the room however I want with trends from now… or in the future.
