Often the thought of home decorating leaves people faint with panic! Find out how to decorate your home just like Martha would without getting lightheaded.
You don’t have to be Martha Stewart to decorate your home and you certainly don’t need to have the most elaborate of ideas. In fact, the simplest ideas are often the boldest. However, just because we don’t have to be Martha Stewart doesn’t mean we can’t poach a few of her ideas, right?
Our friends at QPaint share their top tips below help you to boldly decorate where we’ve never decorated before.
Let Cabinets Shine
Turn a nondescript cabinet – like a linen-press or wardrobe – into a focal point by painting it a gleaming sunny yellow. Now it’ll really pop out and add character to the room. Go for glossy colours and paint by hand to avoid the “manufactured” look.
Use Tile in Unexpected Places
Get rid of that unused fireplace and replace it with glossy tiles, instead. The expanse of tile will look modern, while also adding texture to the room. Match the tiles to the colour scheme of the room – i.e. pale teal wall and deep blue tiles.
Mix Traditional Shapes with Bold Paint
For older-style bathrooms, there’s no need to tear it apart, instead you can modernise that original vanity by painting it a bold colour so it really stands out. Consider choosing a colour similar to one of the colours in the tiles on the floor or walls.
Experiment in Small Ways
Save the most daring colours for small spaces. Paint the inside of a bookcase, butler’s pantry, or shelving a warm colour, like yellow as the intense colour peaking from around a frame will lead the eye into the room.
Once you have experimented with these small projects and you are ready to tackle the bigger ones remember that calling in the experts often saves, time, money and lot of heartache.
