Discover Yasmine Ghoniem's expert tips to help you style a room for boys.
On the surface it might seem like quite a challenge designing for boys or teenagers, but really it’s the same design principles applied whether you’re a kid or an adult. It’s about providing that perfect landscape for them to showcase their passion, their talent, their interests – a space they can really, truly call their own.
Boys will be boys and they don’t like to be told what to do – so the best thing is to throw it over to them and ask them how they’d like to design their room – all in reason of course!
A lot of people think that when you’re designing a boy’s room you’ve got to stick to a blue palette and it’s got to be masculine, and the same thing for a girl – pink and feminine. But throw all those ideas out.
Whether your boys are into sport, music, performing arts, cooking, archeology, it’s about taking their passions and interests and harnessing them – letting them speak in their interiors in their bedroom. They get one room in their house, so it should be theirs to call their safe haven.
