Neale's tips for renovating your kitchen on a budget

People often ask me about what I think the average cost of a kitchen renovation is... but it's not quite that simple! It's like asking, 'How long is a piece of string?', home renovation all depends on size and quality.

It's easy to sink tens of thousands of dollars into a kitchen renovation. But, if you want an impact without blowing the budget, there are a few clever tips for achieving a high-end look for a smaller spend.

One of the main advantages about a refresh rather than a total renovation is smaller cosmetic changes can be tackled one at a time until you have your dream kitchen.

Keep it simple

Moving plumbing and electrics can be expensive when looking at overhauling your kitchen area.

A whole new refit may be nice, but if you can stick to the existing layout, leaving appliances in their original condition, you'll free up more money for the finishes.

Keep the cupboards

If you are just going for a cosmetic change, keep as much of your existing kitchen as you can, especially if it is in good condition.

The carcass (interior of your cupboards) can be saved and you can simply change things like doors and surfaces.

Benchtops

Stone benchtops can be twice the price of laminate but are still cheaper than marble, and in my opinion, they're worth the extra cash.

The concrete look is very on trend at the moment, and the material is actually made from stone.
