Some of these household names are probably in your cupboard... but are they worth the money?
Cleaning your home is a very personal thing. Are you one of those organised people who has different sprays for different rooms, or are you a fan of a multi-purpose spray that does the job on every surface you have?
Either way, you want to know that what you're using is good - and a recent test from consumer watchdog, CHOICE has revealed not all cleaning products are made equal.
The tests even revealed some products are so ineffective, you might as well just use water!
The worst- (and best-) performing multi-purpose cleaners
As plain water scored 40 per cent effectiveness in the CHOICE test, the following products scored lower than water:
- 30 Seconds Multi Surface Cleaner (39 per cent)
- Strike Multi Purpose Cleaner Pomegranate & Vanilla (40 per cent)
- Pledge Multisurface Cleaner Rainshower (40 per cent)
- Pine O Cleen Multi Purpose Cleaner Pine with Vinegar (40 per cent)
- Pine O Cleen Multi Purpose Cleaner Lemon Lime Burst (40 per cent)
- Orange Power Multi-Purpose Cleaner (40 per cent)
However, if you are keen to know which multi-purpose sprays actually aced the consumer watchdog's test, the two below were rated on the other end of the scale, and in the mid to high-80s in effectiveness.
- Nifti Hardworking New Look (88 per cent)
Bam Easy-Off Power Cleaner Grease & Sparkle (84 per cent)
Other honourable mentions
If you're a fan of using a kitchen spray for benchtops and other surfaces, Dettol Healthy Clean Kitchen (84 per cent) and Pine o Cleen Kitchen Expert Antibacterial Kitchen Spray (77 per cent) were the best cleaners. But, CHOICE found you don't actually need to use different products across the home.
CHOICE cleaning product expert Ash Iredale says, "Scores are comparable across kitchen and multipurpose cleaners, so our takeaway is that they're all essentially the same thing. You don't need to buy 57 different cleaning products – just use the same one for everything."
