Take a look at these interior decorating ideas for inspiration help you make your home feel like a tropical oasis.

Colour scheme

Various shades of blue and white are the perfect combination to bring the seaside to your living room. Whitewashed walls or furniture, where the white paint is stripped back in places to let wood show through, is a great touch too.

Combine white walls with bare floorboards, stripped of carpet for a truly beachy feel. A light, airy colour scheme is best for beachy homes, so banish dark items of furniture and instead bring out accents of light beech wood and neutral tones.

Rattan furniture in earthy shades is the perfect addition to a summer home. Wicker chairs will look great, and can be made more comfortable with the addition of colourful cushions.

When it comes to decorating your walls with art and ornaments, remember not to go overboard with the nautical inspiration. A picture of a yacht or an anchor on the wall might be the perfect touch, but add too many details and your home may end up looking more tacky than fancy!

Above all, a beachy home should feel comfortable and relaxing, so don't be too precious about your furnishings. Casual, worn in armchairs and weather-beaten outdoor furniture can still look great in a seaside setting, and will instantly make guests feel at ease.
