Shop the Trend: Rattan Furniture

While only a year ago rattan furniture was thought to be reminiscent of Grandma's sun room, it is coming back in a big way.

Stylish rattan furniture is in high demand in modern homes, as a suitable accompaniment to a range of looks, from boho to beachy to old country glamour.

Roz Campbell, the owner of rattan furniture producer, Flamingo Road, says well-made, quality rattan pieces don't go out of style.

"I love it because it’s so timeless," Roz says of rattan furniture. "It's now also being mixed up with the harder edges of more urban design to soften the look."

So, which look should you go for?

According to the experts, the theme of your room should influence the style of rattan furniture you purchase.

For example, if your living room is more modern or industrial, rattan actually wonders with leather and other natural materials like marble or stone, Sally from Naturally Cane suggests. Add a leather cushion to your rattan chair, or opt for a rattan table beside your leather sofa.

On the other hand, if you prefer a beach or Hamptons look, white washed cane paired with blue and white fabrics will help you achieve this.

For those wondering, cane and rattan furniture is actually the same thing, Sally explains.

"Rattan and cane are the same product and the term wicker is the art of weaving the cane to have that traditional woven look, referred to as 'wickerwork'," she told Lifestyle.
