Discover some fantastic pieces and advice for styling your home black and white!

The monochrome trend has always been popular, but the effect differs drastically depending on your personal style and taste.

"For any room, the first step is to decide how you want the room the feel – calming, sophisticated, classic, chic or cosy," says the Founder of Atelier Lane, Ellie Bradley. "The most important tip is you absolutely must be ready to make a statement, otherwise it will fall flat."

Shop some of the latest monochrome looks, for all styles and budgets.

Playing with patterns will help create your feeling, for example, try bohemian or ethnic patterns for a softer look, or geometric patterns for something more modern.

Meanwhile, don't be afraid to incorporate natural materials, such as cane or timber, as well as pops of colour to compliment your decor.

Here are Ellie's top tips for styling the monochrome trend:

  1. High contrast – One of the best ways to create a modern feel with this colour scheme is through dark timber floors against start white walls. It's dramatic and anchors your room.

  2. Black and White kitchen – "I love the contrast of a black and white kitchen. It's fresh and modern," Ellie explaims. "Add some wood elements to warm up the space and keep it from feeling too stark."
  3. Stripes – Be it in wallpaper or a rug, black and white stripes are classic and instantly add interest to an otherwise bare space. "I usually keep other accessories simple to increase the visual impact," Ellie recommends.

  4. Walls – Don’t forget about your walls. Black and white artwork collections or fabulous wallpaper can add interest and amusement to your home. "Create a black and white gallery wall at the entrance, or play with patterns and wallpaper in the bathroom. It will create a statement!"
