Selling Houses Australia

Selling Houses Australia: Reno Recap Turners Marsh, TAS

For owners Mary and David, their idyllic little cabin nestled amongst 124 acres is a little piece of Tasmanian paradise.

But while they don’t really want to leave their home, the promise of permanent work on the mainland is too good to pass up.

So it's time for this family to sell their cosy, yet cramped little cottage that sits on pristine bushland with breathtaking views. This sale should be a piece of cake, right?

Well, for the Selling Houses team there are mixed thoughts on this one. While Charlie says he’s found his ‘spiritual home’, Shaynna’s not really sold. It might be something to do with the front door that leads to a closet or the DIY kitchen that wasn’t planned properly at all.

Meanwhile, Andrew’s on a mission to add a little bargaining power to this couple’s sale by offering it as a holiday retreat to perspective buyers and broaden their appeal. So, will it work?

With just a $17,500 renovation budget, a lot of free labour and some recycling and upcycling the renovation on this little house has a big impact.

Shaynna manages to keep the rustic character of the cottage intact while creating a much larger kitchen, and with just two small changes in the living room, the area was totally transformed. The addition of a skylight let is some much needed brightness.

On the outside, Charlie added a new seating area and gave the BBQ an upcycled refresh.

The Verdict:

Despite the unpredictable market, the couple were ecstatic when they received two offers both over their asking price of $500,000, and sold soon after.

Unfortunately, the sale didn’t go ahead, and Mary and David are still enjoying living in their cottage, now with the perfect outdoor setting to enjoy the view.
