Seeking Sanctuary

Serene and green, this contemporary semi-formal garden presents a peaceful outlook.

Like most people today, the owners of this contemporary home in Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast wanted a garden that would be easy to maintain, allowing them to spend their time enjoying their leafy new surrounds rather than spending precious hours on garden chores.

They also wanted garden spaces that would be serene, green and private, hence the strong emphasis on boundary screening and plants with rich, green foliage accented by seasonal blooms of white.

Designed by Adrian Walsh of Tecscape Landscaping Contractors, the garden areas that wrap around the house are semi-formal in style, bringing a sense of order and complementing the clean lines of the residence.

For textural impact and to soften the symmetrical layout, there are mass plantings of a limited number of species that in turn complement the mix of hardscaping materials.
It was imperative that the front garden make a strong statement and be visually interesting as you made the journey from entry gate to front door. As soon as you enter the property you are greeted by a trickling water feature and an exposed aggregrate path incorporating sandstone steps that leadsto a timber deck. On either side of the path there is high-quality lawn.

Adrian has used a variety of materials within this landscapeto great effect. The water feature located just inside the frontgate was constructed using stacked-stone. This marries with the Edenstone pavers, the cobbles used for garden edging and the sandstone used for the stepping stones, steps and wall capping.

To give the property’s street frontage a look of maturity, established magnolias were planted. Magnolias were also planted along the boundary for screening and adjacent to the swimming pool. These fragrant, white-flowering trees are complemented by plantings of liriope, camellia, gardenia, Philodendron ‘Xanadu’ and Gardenia ‘Radicans’ (a dwarf, groundcover form of gardenia).

This landscape design, which also makes provision for golfbuggy access down the left-hand side of the house, meets the owners’ every need and, thanks to the expertise of the construction team from Tecscape Landscaping Contractors, itis a landscape that is built to last.
