Selling Houses Australia

Reno Recap: Mt Isa, Qld

This Aussie/Irish couple long for a life around their extended family. Can Charlie, Shaynna and Andrew set them free?

Irish lass, Molly met Aussie miner, Tom while backpacking around the country. They fell in love, started life in remote Mt Isa and soon after, along came a family of their own.

Molly's Irish relatives followed her Down Under for the wedding, and now live in Brisbane. Despite being in the same state, there's a long distance between Brisbane and Mt Isa, which means Molly rarely gets to see her family, as flights are expensive and with Tom working 12-hour days, it's hard to visit all together.

When Molly's father was diagnosed with cancer, the young family decided to sell up and move to be closer to him, but their 1970s house is a substantial 5-bedder on a large block and is at the higher end of the local market.

They are asking a sale price of around $480,000 in a market that’s dipped, but is slowly picking up. Mt Isa is a rural area, so sales don't come as quickly as they do in the city, but their place has been languishing on the market for 12 months. Can a refresh entice a new buyer?

The verdict

The gorgeous makeover was enough to get this rural property market moving. Molly and Tom sold their home for $420,000, leaving them free to make their next big move to Brisbane.
