Selling Houses Australia Reno Recap: Crows Nest, NSW

On the outside, this reno looks like an easy win for the Selling Houses team, but the inside revealed a very different story.

Owners John and Kitsa put everything they had into this real estate investment, buying it in 2013 for $1.7 million. They had hopes of setting up a café while running their successful fermented food business in the busy suburb of Crows Nest, NSW.

But when their business took off, a café became too much work and they decided it was in their best interests to sell up and spend more time with their family.

To buyers - this charming town house was a little confusing, offering a shopfront and a house, with no living area or family kitchen. The only way to get a guaranteed sale was to make it much more homely.

Although this house had plenty of ‘real estate potential’ as Andrew put it, Shaynna and Charlie basically had to start from scratch.

While some might think having a clean slate to work with is easy, it’s certainly not always the case.

Not only did they have to redesign the home using an existing floorplan with lots of long, awkward spaces, they also had to remove all of the grease traps and equipment that come with the industrial kitchen.

Filling in this blank canvas was one of Shaynna’s biggest challenges to date and boy did she deliver!

Opulence was the name of the game for this high-end property. Not only did she create a stunning kitchen, dining and living area from scratch, she also gave this house some extra value by adding a third bedroom.

And while Charlie didn’t have a lot of space to work with this week, his outdoor entertaining area certainly came with its own challenges.

But, as usual, he rose to the occasion creating a cosy, space-saving courtyard that ticks all the boxes for this charming little terrace.

The verdict:
Andrew was right on point with this property, pinning the sale on the team’s excellent renovation which worked with the terrace’s existing real estate potential.

While it took a few weeks, John and Kitsa sold right on their asking price of $2.5 million, not bad considering they couldnt get much interest over $2 million before.

Not only was this sale another impressive renovation by the team, it was also their 100th sale!
