New Norfolk house in Tasmania makeover: Before and After

Take a closer look at the makeover of this weatherboard house in Tassie.

Located on the banks of the Derwent River, New Norfolk is a picturesque village about 45 minutes from Hobart, Tasmania.

In 2010, homeowners Ben and Claire moved to Victoria to be closer to family so they rented out the New Norfolk house. They decided to try to sell it in 2011 in order to buy a larger family home in Victoria… but no such luck. The house languished on the market and they could no longer continue to maintain two homes in two different states.

The exterior of the 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is a ramshackle with a rotten pergola, rusted lattice, and rundown courtyard. And the dated interiors have also fallen into disrepair.

Almost six years on, with two mortgages and two more children, Ben is forced to work weekends and often 18 days straight to make ends meet. The SHA makeover could be the lifeline they need to sell the house and shake off their growing debt.
