Interior Partitions

Sliding doors and partitions are perfect if you need to divide a room for specific uses, or if you want to create distinct zones in an open-plan space. For the best ideas, look at how they've been used in local hotels, bars or shop – and prepare to be inspired.

Sliding Doors

These sliding doors are made of wood panels covered in soft padded silk. The material is light pea green in colour with a delicate white, leaf pattern. The material is framed by a dark wood, which finishes it off nicely. Each panel 'stands alone' but when you bring the three of them together the form a beautiful wall of green and white.

White Slatted Screen

The graphic white wooden screen at Nova Designs is ideal for a space you don't want to close off completely, such as a dining room or home office. The slatted effect creates intimacy and privacy but at the same time allows plenty of light to spill through. It's a look that fits in easily to most homes as it has both a classic and contemporary feel. The doors slide along the ceiling – great if you don't want to put runners in your floor.

Metal Partitions

Restaurants and bars are terrific places for finding inspiration. The metal partitions at the Leichhardt Hotel in Sydney create individual spaces without having to use solid blocks, which would make the sections feel smaller. Even though they don't slide, they're perfect for dividing up different zones in a large open-planned space such as a kitchen/dining area or loft style apartment – and they still allow for conversation.
