Joining together as a group with a common goal has enabled ten families to buy the home of their dreams.
Rob, architect, and Deb, interior designer, are partners in life and in work, and they have come up with the perfect solution to provide affordable housing for their friends who kept missing out at auctions. Located just 7 kms from the city, the MCR Townhouses offer both townhouses and apartments to the ten families that live there, and together Rob and Deb have created a small community.
When they designed the project they asked each family to specify what they wanted in their dream home, and for the most part they were able to accommodate those requests for individual touches.
With a combination of couples, single people, families with grown up children and families with babies, the result is communal living at its best.
A feature of the building is its innovative and cost-effective use of materials. The most eye-catching of all is the crinkled metal façade – reminiscent of the famous Christo wrap.
For the friends who live here, the sense of community is a refreshing change to city living. Perhaps this is the housing of the future!
