How To Use Textures to Create Mood in your Home

Shaynna Blaze shares her expert tips on how to use different textures to style your home.

Textures in the home have just as much impact on design and mood as lighting and colour do. Playing with textures is a fun and easy way to change the look and feel of a room.

1. Texture comes in many forms. You might want it in your tiles, your wallpaper, your upholstery, wood grain, or even in the view out the window.

2. Cushions are a great way to transform the look of a room. Soft textures create a casual feel, geometrics create drama and for something more formal, consider a touch a velvet.

3. A rug is more than an accessory and can really define a space. For example, a large rug in an open living area can connect the furniture and say “come and sit next to me”.

4. Textures are there to have fun and play with. So get creative and find your own style and that way you won’t be a slave to trends.
