A fresh coat of paint and complenting shutters can transform the entire look of your home and can be a low cost solution to spruce up your home in the new year.
If you are shopping for new blinds or shutters, you have to consider more than just a style that will look great, you will also need to consider which size you need to order.
Buying cheap blinds online is becoming increasingly popular, but it means you have to get your measurements right. Here are some tips on how to measure your windows so that you can order the perfect size.
Consider the Mount
Before you start measuring your windows, you need to decide if you are going to mount the blinds inside or outside the window opening. An inside mount will be installed within the frame opening. An outside mount will require larger blinds and will be installed on your wall or on the frame trim. Generally, individuals who want their space to appear larger will go for inside mounts. Outsides mounts are best when you want to block the most sun.
Measuring for an Inside Mount
Whenever you are measuring for an inside mount, you should round your length down by just a centimetre. Make sure to measuring the exact size of the window opening. If the factory you are ordering the blinders from deducts the length for you during the process, you do not need to make any deductions. If you are buying readymade blinds, do the deductions after you measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window. If the figures are different, use an average. Next, measure the height in 3 places along the window vertically. Use the tallest measurement.
Measuring for Outside Mount
If you are measuring your window for an outside mount, you need to decide what height you want the blinds to be installed and how wide you want them to be. After doing this, mark the wall with a pencil and market the width and height. If you want more privacy, be sure to measure the space for more coverage.
Always use a steel measuring tape to make the measuring process easier. Even if your windows appear to be the same size, you should take time to measure all of the windows you are fitting. The naked eye may not be able to detect small differences. After you measure, compare the pre-made sizes that are available and decide if you need to make a custom order.
