Chunky, knitted blankets and throws will never go out of style. However, it seems making your own is the next frontier.
If you consider yourself a bit of a DIY wiz, you may want to challenge yourself to make your own giant knit.
While you could drop over $1,000 on one of these blankets online, you could also save your money and follow this neat how-to guide on YouTube.
According to YouTuber Laura Birek, step one is getting your hands on some giant knitting needles.
Laura uses one and a half inch PVC tubing, that looks at least one and a half metres long. She made sure to create the "buds" at the end using duct tape, to ensure the stitches don't slip off. You will also need at least four balls of slightly felted, unwashed wool.
Laura suggests starting with 28 stitches, then proceeding with a knit-two, purl-two stitch.
Essentially, it's the standard knitting technique but less finicky because this was how it was always going to be when using human-sized knitting needles!
According to Shareably, the whole process would take you only four hours to make a 127cm x 213cm blanket.
