How to glam up your pot plant with gold leaf

This easy DIY project is a great way to add a bit of shine to your garden.

You don't have to be crafty to create, and this step-by-step guide from Jolie Home is a great place for first-timers. With minimal materials and know-how required, you'll be able to add something extra special to your home or make a heartfelt gift for a loved one. Follow the prompts below to find out how you can create your own glam gold leaf planter.

Step one: Mark with tape

Lay the planter on its side and use painter's tape to mark off the sections that you would like to embellish with gold leaf.

Step two: Prepare surface

Apply adhesive glue with an artist brush in the places that you are going to gild with gold leaf. Allow the adhesive to come to tack (it should be clear and feel sticky). This should take about 10 to 12 minutes.

Step three: Cut material

While the adhesive begins to tack, cut your gold leaf into small strips so that it is easier to handle and apply to the planter.

Step four: Apply material

Carefully place your gold leaf over the tacky adhesive. Use a paint brush to push the leaf into place and brush off the excess by swiftly brushing the sides. Allow the adhesive and gold leaf to dry in place.

Step five: Remove tape

When the gold leaf has adhered, slowly remove the painter's tape from your planters and be careful not to rip the paint.

Step six: Colour

If you'd like to add a pop of colour to your planter, use a small, flat brush to paint the top half of the planter. Allow paint to dry.

Step seven: Second coat

If neccessary, apply a second coat of paint to deepen colour. Allow the paint to dry.

Step eight: Add plants

With the paint and gold leaf applied to your planter, all that needs to be done is to add soil and a new home for your glam greenery. Enjoy!
