Choosing the right rug – a few tips from The rug Collection's design team.
The first thing to think about is where your rug is being placed in your room. Is it being used to define an area within a large room, or is to add softness or a burst of colour?
Think about the rugs purpose before you start shopping. Size matters. Measure up your space before deciding on your size to ensure your rug is both balanced and functional in your space.
Dining room rugs need to be large enough for chairs to be pulled out from the table, without catching an edge or pulling up the rug. Hallway runners need to show some floor on all sides.
If you are you working with a small space, choose light or soft neutral tones in your rug to make a room seem spacious, or deeper colours to create an intimate, more cosy feel. Large or small rugs? Use a large rug topped with furniture in a casual setting, or a smaller rug surrounded by furniture for a finished, more formal look.
Perhaps you are thinking of choosing a patterned rug? Patterned rugs are great for anchoring your room’s colour scheme, and unifying your space. Colourful and busy patterned rugs will also be slower in showing wear and tear in high traffic areas.
Finally, don’t think you’re stuck with only rectangle rugs – why not design your own custom rug to your exact size and shape? Square rugs can be the perfect finish to your living space, whereas circular rugs create a sense of movement and are less structured.
Whatever your choice , a rug can add the right splash of colour ; can define an area and set a mood fro the whole house.
