Historic Cobbitty house makeover: Before and After

Take a closer look at the makeover of this rundown old weatherboard home on Sydney’s western fringe.

Cobbitty is about an hour from the Sydney CBD, but the picturesque village feels like it could be hours away from any major city. The village is just over 100 years old, and the house is nearly the same age – and has the scars to prove it.

The house once stood alone overlooking the rolling hills of the Macathur region. But over time the surroundings closed in on the country home until eventually the neighbours built a house five meters from the front door.

Dilapidated is the best way to describe the property. A rotting veranda wraps around the house, and the interior has equally serious deterioration.

Out the front of the house is completely overgrown, and a large carport obscures any glimpse of the house from the driveway, which makes it difficult for visitors to find their way to the front door.

With a small budget and big challenges, Shaynna and Charlie had their work cut out for them.
